This is me, at the construction site of the new EPCOR Tower in downtown Edmonton. Ken Cantor, the Commercial Manager at Qualico offered a bunch of us from C2E a tour of the site, and I took him up on it as both a photographer and an urban nerd.

It's a bit odd because I'm not sure when I started thinking of myself as "a photographer," but it's definitely a good thing that I've been getting in that mindset, and it's great to find myself taking up these opportunities which may never come to pass again.

Unfortunately I can't display any photos that show identifiable faces (except my own), since I was on private property and that was their one stipulation about photographing the site. But I still came away with a ton of great shots.

Two of the three cranes at the site.

Heading into the pit.

This newest skyscraper is going up next to one of Edmonton's oldest skyscrapers, the CN Tower.

Rebar, you bar, we all...bar...for...rebar?

The parkade elevators were out of order...as in, they don't exist yet.

Ready for another pour...this will be the future P2.

CN Tower love.

Part of the new LRT tunnel.

Long way down.

Inside the LRT tunnel. The next time I find myself in here will likely be on an LRT train.

Where the tunnel and the EPCOR Tower meet.

Does this look right to you?

Exiting the pit.

Yet more CN Tower love.

This view will be blocked by this time next year.

Dueling cranes!

Last look at the site; LRT tunnel in the foreground, EPCOR Tower behind.

KEEP OUT

Full set on Flickr is here.

I was using a borrowed zoom lens for these shots, and while disappointed with the quality of it, it was a lot easier to work with than it would have been with a prime (which are all I own right now).

I also did a lot of post-processing on some of the shots to make them a bit more attention-grabbing...making a construction site look good is difficult.

I like the ones with the cranes, and the rebar one with the unfocused background. Nice work!

That was nice of them to give you a tour. How lucky!

I also truly enjoyed these pictures! Thanks for the captions, however as I don't think I would have been able to determine what I was looking at without them.

I can totally see that being a problem... seems to have worked great though! :) What a cool thing, to see what will undoubtedly be an important part of downtown while it's being built!
